PASCOAG, R.I. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Rhode Island boy celebrated his seventh birthday with help from hundreds of first responders.
A caravan of more than 200 police cruisers and fire trucks from across New England picked up Tyler Seddon at his house in Pascoag Thursday. They planned to take him to the police station for a roll call before swearing him in as honorary chief for the day. Law enforcement officials even created a special badge and uniform for the 7-year-old.
Tyler has been undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia while doctors search for a bone marrow donor. His mother began a Facebook campaign to collect cards from firefighters and police officers for his birthday. The campaign went viral, with thousands of Facebook users joining the page.
First responders from as far as Ohio and Pennsylvania visited Pascoag to support Tyler.
A caravan of emergency crews met up at Gillette Stadium before heading down to Rhode Island. Some firefighters at the stadium held various gifts for Tyler, while others signed a large birthday card for him. Members of the Ashland Fire Department carried a plaque naming Tyler as an honorary member.
